Hanging out at Devil’s Lake, WI

June 30, 2015

2015-06-01 18.33.27

We camped at Devil’s Lake.  And while it sounds creepy, it’s really a beautiful park & the campground was nice too!

2015-06-03 10.39.40

We weren’t too far from the playground and so got to play frequently.

2015-06-03 10.37.51Seth loves the slides!

2015-06-04 18.50.26

Tim took the kids to the beach to play a couple times.  Beautiful, no?

2015-06-04 18.41.11

That gorgeous beach and this is what Seth enjoyed most.  Going up and down the stairs.

2015-06-01 17.38.19

It was an overall relaxing week.

May God bless your socks off!

House on the Rock, WI

June 29, 2015

So, we went to House on the Rock.  It was an experience that Tim & I shared before kids and wanted to share with them.

2015-06-03 14.43.12

I think the Infinity room is one of my favorite aspects of the house.  It took me a while to come up with the reason, as really, it’s all smoke and mirrors.  Ok, so not entirely.  You can definitely feel the room sway in the breeze.  But I think it’s one of my favorite, because it’s so bright.  The rest of the house and exhibits are so dark.

Beyond that, we had the best day!

2015-06-03 14.47.38

There are three parts to the house.  The original studio, and then the other 2 main exhibit areas.

2015-06-03 14.30.42

There is so much to look at in the house!

There’s the world’s biggest carousel, the biggest cannon, armor, crowned jewels, a huge whale (like it would fill up more than a school gym size) fighting an equal sized giant squid.  There’s tons of Asian artifacts.

2015-06-03 15.06.07

There was old toys, guns, and a street of buildings with an old fashioned dentist office, toy store, doctor’s office and the like.

Our favorite thing about the place, by far though, was the instruments that played by themselves.  Each place had a spot for a token that they gave you when you got your tickets.  And there were several places where you could get more tokens.  It was fun to watch the instruments play.

2015-06-03 14.57.39

The newest exhibit was the Japanese Garden.

The kids did fantastic this day.  There was so much to see.

But it also got me thinking.  There was so much stuff.  After a while, it was just overwhelming.  You can’t possibly enjoy every single thing there is to see.  Not to mention that some of it is kind of creepy.  In Handsome Hubby’s words, “Not haunted house creepy, but creepy just the same.”

Still, it was all very interesting to see.

May God bless your socks off!

Cedar Rapids, IA – Family & Friends

June 7, 2015

2015-05-29 18.26.17

Cedar Rapids has a special place in our hearts.  It’s where our family was “born,” so to speak.  It’s also the place were all of our babies, thus far, have been born.

2015-05-29 18.27.22

It also happens to be where some of my family live.  The kids love it when Uncle Tweedle comes over.

2015-05-29 18.32.27

And of course, we had to see Grandma & Grandpa M.

2015-05-29 18.32.20

Huh?  Superman’s new talent is to climb on everything! So he’s also depeloped a couple of new bruises.

2015-05-30 11.44.25

We also finally got E-Man his 5 year old gift.  His very own helmet, that HE got to pick out.

2015-05-26 20.26.44

We got to see Ms. A while were in town too!  Ms. A and I went to high school together and hadn’t seen each other in a long time!  It was fun to see her and her two adorable minions!

Finally, we went to the Art Museum to see some of Grant Wood’s art.  We went to see his studio and couldn’t find it.  So I settled on the museum.  Grant Wood lived and worked in Cedar Rapids.  I was surprised to learn that he lived with & painted pictures of his sister & mother.

It was a very fast trip as I had the 3 boys with me.  (Princess & Handsome Hubby went to a wedding of someone that he knew better than I.)

They liked the wooden locks from Africa and the Roman busts.  And because it was such a fast trip I didn’t get any pictures of it.

Mostly, I was too busy making sure they didn’t touch anything…

It’ll be a few years before we go back.

God bless your socks off!

Des Moines, IA – Time with Family

June 2, 2015

Hi there!

2015-05-25 09.53.21

The primary reason for going to Des Moines was family.  Handsome Hubby grew up near Des Moines and all of his family still live there.

2015-05-25 10.05.53

There aren’t a lot of pictures of family because we were too busy simply enjoying them.

At least, I was.

2015-05-18 11.01.46

I simply just don’t think of pulling out my camera – even if it is on my phone – to take pictures.

I’m too busy talking, I guess…

And the kids love to spend time with their cousins!

2015-05-23 18.30.57

I love Cat’s expression in this picture!

I have a similar one of Princess & Sky Fire when they were babies.

And don’t worry, I made sure everything was covered…

2015-05-23 14.22.13

We stayed at Grandma’s house and had an Easter Egg hunt!

2015-05-23 14.20.35

Who cares if it was a couple months late?!

It was fun!

Thanks Grandma!

We also went to the Science Museum.

2015-05-19 15.55.56

This was Seth’s favorite room.

The kids also got to make stuff out of a block of wood.

They got to make paper rockets and fly them – Caleb’s went all the way across the room!

We also got to play with legos. They had it set up so that you could build cars to race.

(You may read: Seth thought the race track was a fun slide.  I had to keep taking him off of it.)

There was also another room that the kids got to pretend to fish & farm & be a doctor.  Sort of like a mini-children’s museum.

2015-05-18 11.02.02

There were a lot of days that we just hung out and talked and played.  It was wonderful for the kids and nice for me.

2015-05-18 11.01.46

I regret to say though, that poor Handsome Hubby didn’t get to enjoy his family as much as I did.  Poor guy had to work all week.  At least he had the weekend.

Thank you, Lord, for understanding family and that he has a job that can allow us to go on this wild, crazy adventure!

May God bless your socks off, as He has mine!
